Department of Biomedical, Metabolic and Neuroscience Sciences

  • Born in 2012 on the initiative of professors and researchers of basic and clinical disciplines in biomedical areas of strategic importance such as Endocrinology, Geriatrics, Metabolic Medicine and Neuroscience. 
  • It belongs to the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and is divided into the sections of: Endocrinology, Geriatrics, Cardiovascular Diseases and Metabolic Medicine, Pharmacology and Molecular Medicine, Physiology and Neuroscience, Human Morphology, Clinical Neuroscience, Cognitive Neuroscience and Psychology and Public Health. 
  • The research activity is supported by numerous groups operating in the biological-biotechnological, medical-surgical, public health and psychological fields. 
  • The ability to collaborate to achieve common and transversal objectives and the team- working attitude of the researchers are distinctive characteristics of the Department that allow it to give life to inter- and multidisciplinary projects that take full advantage of its great scientific-cultural vivacity. 
  • It has been recognized as a Department of Excellence by the Ministry of Education and Merit, distinguishing itself in the CUN 05/Biology and 06/Medicine sectors, with particular reference to the areas of Endocrinology and Neuroscience. This recognition has allowed a significant recruitment of both structured and non-structured professional figures , as well as the acquisition of advanced research equipment available to both the Department and the entire University. 
  • It is the administrative headquarters of numerous Degree Courses,
    Master's Degree Courses, Research Doctorates and Specialization Schools, under the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. 
  • The strong translational vocation and the ongoing collaborations with leading groups at national and international level represent qualifying points in terms of research, pre- and post-graduate teaching, diagnostic/therapeutic innovation and healthcare organization.
